Wells to Portland Bicycle Ride

Today I enjoyed a 50 mile bicycle ride with good company. Ian, Andrew, Percy, Buzz, Michelle, Mark and myself took the downeaster from Portland down to Wells @ 6am. The Wells train station is located on the Eastern Trail with a posted trail sign telling you to make a left at the exit which ends up being route 9...the marked trail then follows some rolling backhills of West Kennebunk and Arundel, flowing nicely through the heart of biddeford/saco then flattens nicely through Old Orchard Beach right along the boardwalk...from there you prceed to follow a dirt carriage road through the woods emptying out onto a stonedust path through the heart of the Scarborough Marsh. There you begin along Blackpoint Road to Highland Ave / Highland Fields. This is the special part of the ET (Eastern Trail) called the Greenbelt (a major part of my daily commute). The Greenbelt is a beautiful bike/ped path that meanders through South Portland dropping you at the Casco Bay Bridge for a quick jaunt back into the heart of Portland. A ride Ive done many times now and plan on doing many more.... this trail (ET) is set to be marked straight down to the Florida Keys, now that would be a ride ! I have tried to take it down to MA where it is supposedly marked...however in a excursion I did on Nov 25th I lost the marking at the Wells Station and had to resort to a map and a bit of common sense.
More updates on this trail in the future. As always wheeeeeelout !
